From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a wide array of heroes, and a thrilling plot featuring celestial beings, demons, and malevolent powers growing in power within Dol-Makjar.
Warning: Spoilers for the latest installment of the new season lie ahead.
The Warrior Group Unveiled
The latest chapter finished on a major cliffhanger and revealed the first table of adventurers who will branch out from the central cast to embark on their separate journey, apart from the additional parties.
The combat-focused team includes Teor (portrayed by the voice actor), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (Whitney Moore), the cleric (Sam), and Kattigan (Robbie Daymond).
Why Split the Party?
Given 13 cast members, it was clear from the outset that having everyone at one table would be unworkable.
That’s why, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Overture, connecting the personal journeys before branching into three smaller tables: Soldiers, Planners, and Seekers.
The Nature of the Soldiers Table
Per the Dungeon Master, the combat-focused party is for participants who prefer a traditionally charged combat and conflict-driven narrative style where non-violent answers are rare.
Upon first impression, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might look out of place, but the actions of the third episode show why these particular heroes are ideally matched for the combat party.
Why They Must Go
To begin with, the team understands precisely where to head next after a violent initial meeting with the antagonists.
An old friend of Thjazi Fang—whose demise initiated the campaign’s events—manipulated the foes for his own means, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, attacking the rogue, and stealing all the powerful objects to dispose of.
The antagonist then settled his liabilities and fled to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Cyd close behind.
Individual Reasons
Moreover, each adventurer has a personal reason to leave the city the metropolitan area:
- Thimble, as the close ally and closest confidant, desires vengeance.
- The adventurer knows the northern area and warns that it is a dangerous place.
- The warrior and The healer, having resisted his relatives’ demands to kill the fighter and instead saved him, have no other options.
- Yet, their position as prominent individuals in the influential clan could help the group reach areas they usually can’t.
- Moreover, The grateful character pledged a life debt to The cleric for his deliverance and will now accompany him wherever.
Fugitives
In addition, all of them are sought by the powers that govern Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city too risky:
- The agile adventurer and The hero are known criminals.
- Tyranny and Wicander defied House Halovar and the army of fiends they are allied with.
- Teor is wanted dead by the family.
This leaves them few options but to head to the remote area in pursuit of the traitor.
Upcoming Developments
According to the latest episode’s post-show segment, we discover that the combat party will be absent the following episode, leaving the rest of the cast members to round up the Explorers and Planners groups.
Viewers can look forward to finding out which adventurers will be assigned to which table in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, released on next week.
